(A) Commercial Electrical Work. Except as provided in division (B) of this section, no permit for the installation or alteration of any electrical wiring, devices, appliances or equipment shall be issued to any person unless such person is the holder of a license as an electrical contractor, entitling him or her to secure permits for and to execute the work described in the application for the permit. The registered electrical contractor shall be granted a permit by the Building Commissioner for such work. Such permit shall be conditioned upon the approval of such work at its completion by the Building Commissioner and shall not be construed as a waiver of any of the provisions of the Ohio Building Code or of other ordinances applicable to electrical work.
(B) Residential Electrical Work. The owner of record of a residential building containing three or fewer dwelling units may secure a permit for work to be done by him or her upon such building or appurtenant structures owned by him or her, or upon a residential building containing three or fewer dwelling units being constructed for his or her personal occupancy. A registered Residential Electrical Contractor or a registered Electrical Contractor, shall obtain an electrical permit for the installation or alteration of any electrical wiring, devices, appliances or equipment to execute the work described in the application for the permit. Such property owner or electrical contractor shall be granted a permit by the Building Commissioner for such work, upon executing a proper application. Such permit shall be conditioned upon the approval of such work at its completion by the Building Commissioner and shall not be construed as a waiver of any of the provisions of the Residential Code of Ohio or of other ordinances applicable to electrical work.
