When any vehicle is parked in any space adjacent to which a parking meter is located, the operator of the vehicle shall provide for payment for the use of the space as directed by the instruction on the meter or other signage. Upon the deposit of the payment, the parking space may be lawfully occupied by the vehicle during the period of the time limitations as designated on the parking meter or other signage.
