Uniforms, insignia and items of equipment for members of the Police Department shall be as prescribed in the departmental rules and regulations as approved by the Town Board; and the Town Board may, in the annual budget ordinances or by ordinance or resolution at other times, provide that the town shall furnish certain items of uniform, insignia and equipment of members of the Police Department free of charge, or on memorandum receipt.
