(A) Carts may be driven on streets only if equipped with two operating headlights (one on each side of the front of the golf cart), two operating tail lights with brake lights (one on each side of the rear of the cart), and turn signals (one on each side of the cart, front and rear) which are visible from a distance of 500 feet. Carts will also be required to have a factory specified muffler and adhere to the current town noise ordinance.
(B) Carts must be equipped with a windshield, rear vision mirror, and either a slow moving vehicle sign or a flashing red or amber light to the rear.
(C) Cart drivers must have on their person a valid driver license in their name.
(D) Cart drivers will stay to the far right of the traveled portion of the street and yield the right-of-way to overtaking vehicles.
(E) The number of occupants in a golf cart shall be limited to the number of persons for whom individual seating is installed and provided on the golf cart. The operator and all occupants shall be seated in the golf cart and no part of the body of the operator or occupant shall extend outside the perimeter of the golf cart while the golf cart is in motion.
(F) All applicable state laws shall be adhered to, including the possession and use of alcoholic beverages.
(G) The operator of the golf cart shall comply with all traffic rules and regulations adopted by the State of Indiana and the Town of Liberty which governs the operation of motor vehicles with the exception of seatbelts. Lap type seatbelts are required for all occupants. No person under the age of two is permitted to be on the cart while operated on the town streets.
(H) Carts will adhere to all traffic flow patterns, and will operate on the right side of the roadway.
(I) Carts shall not be operated on sidewalks or on any public grass areas.
(J) Carts shall not be operated on private property, without the permission and consent of the property owner.
(K) Motorized carts may not operate on streets or highways under the jurisdiction of the Indiana Department of Transportation. Motorized carts may cross these streets or highways to access other streets at intersections only. Crossing must be at a right angle. The specific streets and highways referenced include West Union Street and Eaton Street or State Road 44, South Main Street or US Highway 101, North Main Street and East Seminary Street or US Highway 27.
(L) Operators of carts are required to remove a wrecked or damaged golf cart and any and all glass or other foreign material dropped onto a roadway in the event of an accident.
