1309.63 I-1 INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT REGULATIONS.
The I-1 Industrial Districts permit a variety of warehousing, distribution, manufacturing and/or processing operations that generally require larger lots and greater building setbacks. Industries generally have less need for customer attraction than commercial establishments but do require signage for location by potential clients, sales representatives, suppliers, etc.
The following types of signs are permitted within an I-1 Industrial District, subject to review and approval of a Sign Permit.
   (a)   Wall Signs. One (1) primary wall sign shall be permitted for each business tenant occupying a building or structure. One (1) secondary wall sign may be displayed when a business establishment has frontage on more than one street or where there is a side or rear entrance that is commonly used by the public. The total area of all wall signs may not exceed the maximum wall sign area allowed in Section 1309.73.
   (b)    Directory Sign. Each building having more than one(1) tenant may have one (1) directory sign, in addition to any other wall signs, that shall provide not more than 4 sq. ft. per each occupant, and shall only state the name and address of the building tenants. Such signs shall be mounted flat against the face of a building like a wall sign.
   (c)    Signs on Awnings or Canopies. One (1) or more signs shall be permitted on an awning or canopy subject to the following conditions:
      (1)   No awning or canopy shall extend to a point closer than three (3) feet back from the face of the curb. Minimum clearance below awning to grade shall be eight (8) feet.
      (2)    No canopy may have supporting posts or columns that are less than ten (10) feet back of the public right-of-way. Minimum clearance below any canopy to grade shall be ten (10) feet.
      (3)    Lettering or logos on an awning or canopy may not exceed one (1) foot in height. The area devoted to lettering and logos shall be included in computing the maximum allowable wall sign area for that business or structure.
   (d)   Ground Signs. One (1) ground sign shall be permitted for each lot or parcel having at least sixty-six (66) feet of frontage plus one (1) additional sign if the business has frontage on a second public street or access drive, and further subject to the provisions of Section 1309.73.
   (e)   The portion of the total area of the main sign having a changeable message area shall not exceed fifty percent (50%) of the total sign area.
