Because the T-Transitional District is generally located in close proximity to residential zoning districts, it is important to ensure that signs in this district are harmonious with the character of the neighborhood in which they are located. Sign controls in the T-Transitional District are therefore generally more stringent than for other business districts.
The following types of signs shall be permitted in a T-Transitional District after review and approval of a Sign Permit:
(a) Wall Signs. One (1) primary wall sign shall be permitted on the front of a building for each occupant or tenant of that building or structure except when an occupant or tenant has an entrance that faces a second abutting street or has an access from a rear parking lot, the primary wall sign for that business may be displayed on that appropriate building face. See Section 1309.70.
(b) Directory Sign. Each building may: display one (1) directory sign, in addition to the above wall sign, that shall provide not more than two (2) sq. ft. per each occupant and shall state only the name and address of the building occupants. Such signs shall be mounted flat against the face of the building like a wall sign.
(c) Signs on awnings subject to the following conditions:
(1) No awning shall extend beyond a point closer than three (3) feet back of the Public Right-of-way.
(2) All awnings shall be erected so that their lowest point is at least eight (8) feet above the sidewalk.
(3) Lettering or logos on an awning shall not exceed one (1) foot in height. The area utilized for lettering or logos will be included in computing the maximum wall sign area allowed for that building.
(d) Ground Sign. One (1) ground sign shall be permitted on each lot or parcel having at least 66 feet of frontage, regardless of the number of businesses occupying that lot, and further subject to the provisions of Section 1309.70.
