6-1-8: CONSERVATORS OF THE PEACE:
Every full time and part time member of the police department is hereby declared to be a conservator of the peace after receiving a certificate attesting to the successful completion of a training course administered by the Illinois law enforcement training and standards board and such full and part time members of the police department shall have the power to arrest or cause to be arrested, with or without process, all persons who break the peace or are found violating any municipal ordinance, or criminal law of the state of Illinois; to commit arrested persons for examination; if necessary, to detain arrested persons in custody overnight or Saturday or Sunday in any safe place until they can be brought before the proper court; and to exercise all other powers as conservators of the peace prescribed by corporate authorities; and for such other powers as granted conservators of the peace by statute. Auxiliary police officers shall not be members of the regular police department and shall not be conservators of the peace. (Ord. 01-13, 2-5-2013)
