5-1-4: IMPOUNDMENT AND REDEMPTION PROVISIONS:
   A.   Impoundment Authorized: It shall be the duty of the animal control officer to catch, take up, and impound at the county animal shelter any dog or cat found running at large in the city contrary to the provisions of this chapter.
   B.   Notice Of Impoundment: If ownership of the dog or cat can be established through reasonable effort, the owner or keeper of such dog or cat shall be given notice by mail of such impounding.
   C.   Use Of County Animal Shelter: Any dog or cat taken up or caught by the animal control officer shall be impounded at the county animal shelter, and shall be held at the county animal shelter pursuant to the regulations established by the county.
   D.   Redemption Of Impounded Dog Or Cat: Any owner or keeper desiring to redeem an impounded dog or cat which was caught and impounded by the animal control officer shall first pay a fee of five dollars ($5.00) to the city clerk or the city police department and obtain a receipt for such payment, which shall be presented to the officials at the county animal shelter. The owner or keeper may then redeem the impounded dog or cat by paying such other charges as may be imposed by the county animal shelter as provided by law.
   E.   Disposition Of Unredeemed Dogs And Cats: Any dog or cat not redeemed by its owner or keeper shall be disposed of as provided by regulations established by the county. (Ord. 297, 4-25-1995)
