§ 32.01 MEMBERS; ELECTION, QUALIFICATIONS, COMPENSATION.
   (A)   Election; term of office. Each Councilmember shall be elected at-large by the voters of the city at a regular election. A candidate for council shall be a resident of the city for not less than one year prior to his or her election. Terms of office begin on the first day of January following the election and shall be for two years.
   (B)   Qualifications.
      (1)   A member shall be at least 18 years of age, shall be a qualified voter in the city, and shall reside in the city throughout his term of office.

      (2)   No member of the City Council shall be interested in any contract with the city or be in arrears to the city for money collected or withheld without a settlement or quietus therefor.
      (3)   The absence of the qualifications or the existence of any of the disqualifications provided for in this division (B) shall render a person ineligible to be a member of the City Council, and the Council shall so declare and fill the vacancy.
   (C)   Compensation. Members of the City Council shall each receive the sum of $600.00 per month as compensation beginning on the first day in January, 2007 said amount to be adjusted annually by the percentage of increase or decrease in the consumer price index as calculated by the Kentucky Department for Local Government.
