5-1-23: LITTERS OF PUPPIES AND KITTENS:
   A.   No individual, breeder, or kennel operator, or business entity may sell, give away, or otherwise separate any puppy or kitten eight (8) weeks of age or younger from its mother or its littermates. (State Law Reference 225 ILCS 605/2.2)
      1.   Separation from the mother can be done under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian when doing so is in the best interest of both the mother and the litter. The littermates must stay together until the age of eight (8) weeks.
   B.   For any person violating or aiding in the violation of any provision of this section, or resisting, obstructing, impeding the animal control authority or any authorized officer in enforcing this section, shall be fined no less than one hundred dollars ($100.00) or no more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) per occurrence.
