The Chief of the Fire Department shall have charge of all the firefighting apparatus belonging to the city and shall be responsible for the safekeeping and care thereof. He or she shall have command and control of the entire Department when in active service at fires and the general supervision of the members of the department at all times. He or she shall see that all ordinances of the city and state regulations for the prevention of fires and protection of properties against fires are enforced and shall comply with directives of the Board of Public Works and Safety.
