(A) Any full-time employee is eligible for bereavement leave with pay upon the death of a spouse, brother, sister, son, daughter, mother, father, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, niece, nephew or any family member residing in the same household. Any full-time regular employee except shift firefighters, full-time EMTs and paramedics and Operations Division police officers is eligible to receive three days of paid bereavement leave not to exceed 24 hours. Any Operations Division police officer is eligible to receive three days of paid bereavement leave not to exceed 25-1/2 hours. Any shift firefighter, full-time EMT or paramedic is eligible to receive one full shift of bereavement leave with pay not to exceed 24 hours. Bereavement leave is to be taken in full shift increments and in consecutive calendar days.
(B) Step relationships or relationships of the half-blood shall be regarded the same as full relationship.
(C) Accumulated paid leave can be utilized upon the recommendation of the supervisor if further time off is necessary. Paid leave is to be utilized in the following sequence: sick, personal, compensatory, bonus or holiday and vacation.
(D) A copy of the obituary must be attached to the employee’s timesheet when requesting bereavement leave. If an obituary notice is not available, the department head must attach a memo to the timesheet approving the employee’s request for bereavement leave.
