1-12-6: POLICE OFFICER DUTIES:
The position of police officer is an inherently dangerous position. Police officers shall act under the direction of the chief of police, and shall at all times have the authority to preserve the public peace, prevent crime, detect and arrest offenders, suppress riots, protect persons and property, remove nuisances existing in the public streets, roads and highways, enforce every law relating to the suppression of offenses, and perform all duties required of them by ordinance, resolution or the direction of the chief of police, mayor and city council. The duties enumerated in this section shall not act as a limitation of a police officer's statewide authority as otherwise provided by law. (Ord. 2006-30, 9-20-2006)
