(A) A schedule of animal control fines is hereby adopted.
Running at large: Domestic animals | 1st offense: Verbal or written warning citation and/or impoundment of animal plus reclaim requirements. |
2nd offense: $50 fine and/or impoundment of animal plus reclaim requirements. | |
3rd offense: $100 fine and/or impoundment of animal plus reclaim requirements. | |
Barking dog (habitual)
| 1st offense: Verbal or written warning citation and/or impoundment of animal plus reclaim requirements. |
2nd offense: $50 fine and/or impoundment of animal plus reclaim requirements. | |
3rd offense: $100 fine and/or impoundment of animal plus reclaim requirements. | |
Unvaccinated dog/cat
| 1st offense: Verbal or written warming with date given to receive rabies vaccination. Failure to comply results in $100 fine and/or impoundment. |
Unlicensed dog
| 1st offense: Verbal or written warming with date given to receive rabies vaccination. Failure to comply results in $100 fine and/or impoundment. |
Animal bites
| 1st offense: $50 fine and/or impoundment plus reclaim requirements. |
2nd offense: $100 fine and/or impoundment plus reclaim requirements. | |
3rd offense: $100 fine, impoundment plus court determining permanent removal of biting animal. Daily fee until court date. |

Fees collected from these violations go into shelter budget. | |
(B) Such fines will be paid to the County Clerk who serves as Clerk of the LaPorte County Violations Bureau.
(C) All fines collected shall be deposited in a separate fund for use in the animal control shelter as part of the shelter's succeeding annual budget.
(D) A failure to pay any fine imposed will subject the individual to an enforcement action. In the event of any enforcement action, the individual could be liable for all expenses necessary for action to include attorney fees and a fine not to exceed $2,500 per day, per violation.
