(A) There is hereby established an Economic Development Department within and for LaPorte County, which shall be controlled by a Commission known as the LaPorte County Economic Development Commission.
(B) Such Economic Development Department and Economic Development Commission shall have the powers and authorities set forth in I.C. 36-7-12-1 et seq., as from time to time amended.
(C) The LaPorte County Economic Development Commission shall consist of three members appointed by the LaPorte County Commissioners. One such member shall be selected by the County Commissioners; one such member shall be appointed by the County Commissioners, pursuant to a nomination by the LaPorte County Council; and, one such member shall be appointed by the LaPorte County Commissioners, pursuant to a nomination by the Common Council of the City of Michigan City.
(D) Appointed members of the LaPorte County Economic Development Commission shall take office upon their appointment, and their terms shall run from the first day of February after their original appointment, for a period of: (a) three years, if appointed by the County Commissioners; (b) two years, if nominated by the LaPorte County Council; and, (c) one year, if nominated by the Common Council of the City of Michigan City.
(E) Upon the adoption of this secxtion, the Clerk of the LaPorte County Council shall promptly notify the Board of Commissioners of LaPorte County, the Common Council of the City of Michigan City, and the County Council of La Port County, of the adoption of such section. Those bodies shall make their selection and nominations of members of the LaPorte County Economic Development Commission within 15 days after receiving such notice. The Board of Commissioners of LaPorte County shall appoint each selectee and nominee within ten days after receiving the various selections and nominations.
(F) From and after its establishment at the appointment of its original membership, the LaPorte County Economic Development Commission shall function pursuant to the terms of I.C. 36-7-12-1 et seq., as from time to time amended.
