3.5.7  Bedding and Encasement.
The pipe shall be properly embedded and cased depending on the pipe size, depth of cover, and anticipated loads. Bedding shall be a noncompactable granular material with the pipe contact points placed carefully to within 0.01' of plan grade. Contact points for the pipe bell shall be scooped out so that the pipe bearing rests on the main run of the pipe and not on the bell. Once set to grade, bedding material shall be installed to the pipe spring line (mid-pipe). An appropriate free-flowing material shall be used to fill the remainder of the pipe section to a point at least 1' above the top of pipe. Properly compacted select fill, as directed, shall be required for the remainder of the backfilling operation.
