§ 150.05  SMOKE DETECTORS.
   (A)   Every dwelling unit within an apartment house, every guestroom in a hotel used for sleeping purposes, and every rented dwelling unit or any other residential property shall after the effective date of this section be provided with smoke detectors conforming to the Uniform Building Code.
   (B)   Smoke detectors shall be required in every dwelling unit in any type of residential property before any certificate of occupancy is granted or renewed.  No building permit or alteration shall, in any event, be granted without the installation of smoke detectors.
   (C)   The number of smoke detectors and the manner and location of installation shall be set forth in the Uniform Building Code.
   (D)   Smoke detectors shall be maintained in operating condition at all times.  Rental property shall be inspected at least annually for compliance herewith.  If any authorized person is refused access to any rental dwelling unit upon reasonable notice, the certificate of occupancy for the unit shall be cancelled.  If the smoke detector required for a rental unit is inoperable, the premise shall be reinspected within 15 days and if the detector is at that time inoperable, the certificate of occupancy shall be cancelled.
   (E)   The Town Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to cause publication of the descriptive caption and penalty clause of this section as an alternative method of publication as provided by law.
   (F)   This section shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage and publication as above specified.
