§ 4.02 DUTIES OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE.
   (A)   The Chief of Police (“Chief”) shall be the keeper of the village jail and shall have custody of all persons incarcerated therein. He or she shall keep such records and make such reports concerning the activities of his or her Department as may be required of statute or by the Village Board. The Chief shall be responsible for the performance of the Department and for all people who are members of the Department. The Chief is hereby authorized to appoint one Deputy Chief, or, if no Deputy Chief is duly qualified under statute and ordinance, shall be allowed to appoint one Commander, who shall serve at the pleasure of the Chief and at the rate of pay set by the Board from time to time. The Deputy Chief, or Commander as the case may be, shall be the second highest ranking officer with the Sergeant being the rank next below that of the Deputy Chief or Commander.
   (B)   All other officers of the Department shall be patrol officers and subject to the command of the Chief, Deputy Chief or Commander as the case may be, and Sergeant(s). The Board of Trustees shall set the number of patrol officers for the Department based upon the advice of the Chief.
