There is hereby created a Police Department, referred to in the chapter as the “Department”, which is an executive department of the village. The Department shall consist of a Chief of Police, also known as the Village Marshal, who shall be appointed annually by and serve at the discretion of the Mayor. Additionally, there shall be one Deputy Chief and as many sergeants and patrolers as the Village Board deems necessary. The Chief’s removal from the position prior to the expiration of the annual appointment shall only occur with the advice and consent of the Village Board of Trustees.
