It shall be unlawful to drive any motor vehicle on any street not under the jurisdiction of the state, or the county, or in an urban district within the village at a speed in excess of 25 mph and on any street outside the urban district of the village at a speed of more than 55 mph; provided that, if the corporate authorities, set other limits as provided by statute after an engineering or traffic survey, then such limits shall govern die rate of speed on the streets. Appropriate signs shall be posted showing such speed limits.
