(A) All freestanding walls, sound barriers, ground sign enclosures, planters, and the like fronting along the designated roadway or its major intersections shall be of brick. When a brick wall is used for a visual screen, the wall shall conform to the architectural style and materials of surrounding properties.
(B) Properties that directly abut the Lake Mary Boulevard right-of-way, which have a residential zoning classification and a residential land use designation, shall be permitted to erect or construct brick walls within the front yard setback from Lake Mary Boulevard and intersecting streets, provided that:
(1) No wall or portion of a wall shall exceed seven feet in height.
(2) Driveway sight distance and roadway intersection sight distance is provided in accordance with Chapter 155, Appendix A, Section8, of the Lake Mary Code of Ordinances.
(3) If a material other than brick is proposed as a wall surface, a waiver must be sought from the City Commission at a public meeting. The party seeking the waiver must make the request in writing to the Community Development Department, accompanied by drawings, photographs or other renderings that illustrate the alternative proposed. The City Commission may approve an alternative wall material provided that the alternative proposed is architecturally consistent with the principal structure on site, and the proposed material is architecturally compatible with walls on contiguous properties. A $50 non-refundable fee will be charged for a waiver request.
