There is created a department to provide fire and emergency medical services for the City, hereinafter referred to as the Fire Department or Department, and which shall consist of a Fire Chief and other subordinate employees as deemed necessary and appropriate by the City Manager. The Fire Department shall be responsible for fire suppression; providing emergency medical services; coordinating the provision of emergency medical care/transportation; performing rescue operations; providing hazardous materials and disaster response and mitigation; fire prevention; public education regarding fire and life safety; building plan review; fire code enforcement; and fire cause determination, within the corporate limits of the city except as otherwise provided in this chapter.
