§ 8.20.050 INSTALLATION OF BACKFLOW PREVENTION ASSEMBLIES FOR FIRE SYSTEMS.
   A.   When a backflow prevention assembly is required for a water service connection supplying water only to a fire sprinkler system, the assembly shall be installed at the service connection in compliance with the standards and specifications adopted by the Department.
   B.   If the Chief of the Lake Havasu City Fire Department or designee determines that a fire sprinkler system shall have a continuous water supply which may not be interrupted during testing of the backflow prevention assembly, the customer shall install, at his or her expense, 2 backflow prevention assemblies parallel to one another at the service connection. The diameter of each assembly shall be at least equal to the diameter of the service connection.
      1.   As an alternative, a backflow device may be installed on the fire sprinkler riser upon approval by the Fire Department after submission of all required and requested permit and plan documents.
   C.   An existing service connection supplying water solely to a fire sprinkler system shall be exempt from the provisions of § 8.20.100 unless 1 of the following conditions should occur.
      1.   The existing device is moved from its present location;
      2.   The existing device requires repairs which exceed 50% of the replacement value of the device;
      3.   The existing device is unable to be repaired for any reason, including obsolescence;
      4.   The existing device cannot be tested in accordance with the standards set forth by the FCCCHR-USC; and
      5.   The existing device or condition constitutes a hazard to the public health, safety and welfare.
