§ 100.01 PURPOSE AND INTENT.
   (A)   This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the Lake County Environmental Protection Ordinance.
   (B)   It is hereby declared to be the purpose of this chapter to protect public safety, health, and welfare and enhance the environment for the people of the county by providing for the investigation and remediation of hazardous substances.
   (C)   The provisions of this chapter are not intended and shall not be construed as superseding or conflicting with any statutory provisions relating to, or rules and regulations promulgated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency or the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, but shall be construed as supplementing, implementing and assisting in the enforcement of federal and state laws concerning hazardous substances. Should any of the provisions of this chapter be determined to be inconsistent with federal or state law the remainder of this chapter shall remain in effect and be interpreted ignoring such provision.
   (D)   This chapter shall not be construed to limit the authority of any municipality to adopt more stringent standards. The purpose of this chapter is solely to establish minimum standards protective of human health and the environment.
