A. Membership: There is hereby created and established a department of the village to be known as the police department which shall be under the supervision of the village administrator. The police department shall consist of a chief of police, a deputy chief of police if determined by the board of trustees, and such number of police officers of grade and rank as may be deemed necessary and proper by the board of trustees, employed pursuant to the rules and regulations of the board of fire and police commissioners of the village.
B. Chief Of Police And Deputy Chief Of Police: The chief of police and deputy chief of police shall be employed as provided in section 1-6F-1 of this code, and the terms of their employment shall be as determined by the board of trustees.
C. Reduction In Number Of Police Officers: The board of trustees may, in its discretion, reduce the number of police officers. In that event, any employment made shall be terminated in accordance with the rules and regulations of the board of fire and police commissioners then in effect, relating thereto, based upon seniority and other applicable requirements imposed by law.
D. Part-Time Police Officers: There is created the position of part-time police officer; a position of employment of the village. Part-time police officers will be appointed, disciplined, and discharged by the village administrator and chief of police and will have the powers and duties set forth in this chapter. Part time police officers will not be assigned, under any circumstances, to supervise or direct full time police officers of the police department. The number of part-time police officers serving the village will be determined by the village administrator, with the advice and consent of the corporate authorities. (Ord. 2014-4, 2-24-2014; amd.
