4-2-1: DEFINITIONS:
As used in this chapter, the following words and terms shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section:
ALARM HOLDER: The owner of an alarm system or the owner or occupant of the premises within which an alarm system is installed or operated. In the event that the owner of an alarm system, the owner of the premises and/or occupant of the premises in which an alarm system is located are different, all of said persons, entities, firms or corporations shall be jointly and severally liable for any violation of this chapter.
ALARM SYSTEM: An assembly of equipment components or devices installed within or on premises which is designed to signal the presence of any hazard or emergency requiring urgent attention and to which police or the fire district are expected to respond. Alarms systems shall include, but not be limited to, fire, burglar and holdup alarms.
COUNTY: County of Lake, state of Illinois.
FALSE ALARM: The transmission of any alarm signal caused by human error or mechanical malfunction, whether or not the exact cause of the error or malfunction is identified or any other activation of the signal when no actual emergency exists, except that the transmission of an alarm signal caused by a weather related incident shall not constitute a false alarm. Any false alarm shall be presumed to be not weather related and it shall be the burden of the alarm holder to rebut the presumption that the alarm was not weather related.
FIRE DISTRICT: The fire protection district which serves the premises upon which is situated the alarm system.
SERVICE CHARGE: An assessment by the village against an alarm holder for a false alarm emanating from an alarm system as provided in this chapter.
SHERIFF: The sheriff of Lake County, Illinois.
VILLAGE: The village of Lake Barrington. (Ord. 88-O-02, 1-4-1988)
