§ 32.06 POLICE OFFICER.
   (A)   Employment status. Police officer is a hired position.
   (B)   General description of duties. Performs police functions as directed by the Chief of Police.
   (C)   Supervision received. Is responsible to the Patrol Sergeant, Chief of Police and Town Manager.
   (D)   Supervision exercised. None.
   (E)   Duties. As directed by the Patrol Sargent, and the Police Chief, will perform general law enforcement duties including:
      (1)   Patrol duty;
      (2)   Traffic control including:
         (a)   Day to day traffic control; and
         (b)   Special traffic control when requested by the Police Chief.
      (3)   Apprehension of suspected criminals;
      (4)   Acts as a liaison between the community and the town government;
      (5)   Participates in community safety programs and information sessions;
      (6)   Animal control: responsible for trapping animals which pose an immediate threat to community safety. In such instances the police officers will respond to the direction of the Police Chief. A police officer may act on his or her own, however, to apprehend a dangerous animal and will act in coordination with the Maintenance Department for transportation of the animal to the shelter;
      (7)   Prepares reports on criminal investigations, arrests, traffic violations, animal control and other activities;
      (8)   Other related duties as assigned; and
      (9)   Investigation of crimes.
   (F)   Qualifications.
      (1)   Knowledge and abilities. Working knowledge of accepted police practices; ability to work with the public, ability to perform assigned tasks without close supervision;
      (2)   Desired education and experience. Degree from an accredited high school or GED equivalent and one-year experience in police work or a B.A. or B. S. in police science or related field; CLETA certification; and
      (3)   Certification. Current POST certification.
