§ 32.05 POLICE SERGEANT.
   (A)   Employment status. Patrol sergeant is a hired position.
   (B)   Supervision received. Is responsible to the Chief of Police and the Town Manager.
   (C)   Supervision exercised. Patrol officers.
   (D)   Duties. As directed by the Chief of Police; will perform general law enforcement duties including:
      (1)   Patrol duty;
      (2)   Traffic control:
         (a)   Day to day traffic control; and
         (b)   Specific traffic control requested by the Chief of Police.
      (3)   Apprehension of suspect criminals;
      (4)   Acts as a liaison between the community and the town government;
      (5)   Participates in community safety programs and information session;
      (6)   Animal control: responsible for trapping/capturing animals which pose an immediate threat to community safety. In such instances the police officers will respond to the direction of the Chief of Police. A police officer may act on his or her own, however, to apprehend a dangerous animal;
      (7)   Prepares reports on criminal investigation arrests, traffic violations, animal control and other activities;
      (8)   Other related duties assigned;
      (9)   Investigate crimes;
      (10)   Responsible for training and certification of all officers to include scheduling courses;
       (11)   Prepare work schedule for approval of Chief of Police;
      (12)   To be available (in a timely manner) to patrol officers and Chief of Police should emergencies arise;
      (13)   To report any and all violations of this policy or policies of the Police Department to the Chief of Police in a timely manner;
      (14)   Communicate all events, criminal trends or emergency information which might cause officers to be harmed or cause harm to the Town Police Department and the town, to the Chief of Police regardless of where the information was obtained;
      (15)   Will become acting Police Chief due to any incapacitation of the Police Chief; and
      (16)   All other duties as assigned.
   (E)   Qualifications.
      (1)   Knowledge and abilities: working knowledge of accepted police practices and procedures; ability to work with the public, ability to perform assigned tasks without close supervision;
      (2)   Desired education and experience: degree from accredited high school or GED equivalent and five years experience in police work or B.A. or B.S in police science or related filed; CLETA certification; and
      (3)   Current POST certification
