The Assistant Fire Chief and firefighters shall be able-bodied not less than 18 years of age. They shall become members of the Fire Department only after a one year probationary period. The Council may require that each candidate, before he or she may become a probationary firefighter, must satisfy certain minimum qualifications which may be specified by the City Council; and that the candidate must pass satisfactorily a physical examination.
