§ 31.15 FIRE DEPARTMENT.
   (A)   There is hereby created a township paid-on call Fire Department to be staffed by paid-on call personnel who shall be given training in fire protection and related activities.
   (B)   The Township Manager shall appoint a Fire Chief and shall be the immediate supervisor of the Fire Chief. The Fire Chief shall be responsible for the hiring of all assistants, firefighters, and other personnel of the Fire Department, subject to approval of the Township Manager. The Fire Chief shall be the immediate supervisor of all assistants, firefighters, and other personnel of the Fire Department.
   (C)   The Fire Department shall enforce the laws of the State of Michigan and the ordinances of the township as they apply to fire prevention and regulations.
   (D)   This subchapter shall not limit the authority of the Township Board to contract for the services provided by the Fire Department, the Township Board's authority to have another governmental entity provide those services as authorized by statute or the Michigan Constitution of 1963, or establishing an authority or other entity recognized by the laws of the State of Michigan.
   (E)   The Township Manager shall appoint a person to serve as Acting Fire Chief during the period of a vacancy in the position of the Fire Chief or during the absence of the Fire Chief when such vacancy or absence is for a period longer than two weeks. The Fire Chief may designate an individual to act in the Fire Chief's absence during an absence from the duties of the Fire Chief when the absence is for a period of two weeks or less. The Acting Fire Chief shall take any required oath of office prior to performing the responsibilities of the Fire Chief.
