(A) There is hereby created a Code Enforcement Department to be staffed by a Code Enforcement Officer, if needed. The Township Manager shall be the immediate supervisor of the Code Enforcement Officer. This subchapter shall not limit the authority of the Township Board to contract for the services provided by the Code Enforcement Department or the Township Board's authority to have another governmental entity provide those services as authorized by statute or the Michigan Constitution of 1963.
(B) The Township Manager shall appoint a person to serve as Acting Code Enforcement Officer during the period of a vacancy in the position of the Code Enforcement Officer or during the absence of the Code Enforcement Officer when such vacancy or absence is for a period longer than two weeks. The Code Enforcement Officer, with approval of the Township Manager, may designate an individual to act in the Code Enforcement Officer's absence during an absence from the duties of the Code Enforcement Officer when the absence is for a period of two weeks or less. The Acting Code Enforcement Officer shall take any required oath of office prior to performing the responsibilities of the Code Enforcement Officer.
