§ 50.04 TRASH AND GARBAGE CONTAINERS.
The trash and garbage containers referred to in this subchapter shall meet the following specifications.
   (A)   Standard containers for the storage of garbage shall be substantially made of metal and/or heavy duty plastic weight material, to be leakproof and water-tight with a tight-fitting cover and shall have a capacity not to exceed 26 gallons; any container having a capacity of over 20 gallons shall have two carrying handles, but any container of less than 20 gallons capacity may be equipped with an adequate bail-carrying handle. In place of the metal/plastic containers, heavy duty garbage bags will be acceptable for the storage of garbage and collection thereof. Said garbage bags shall be considered as “containers” as hereinafter referenced. All garbage to be collected shall be put in heavy duty garbage bags first, regardless of whether an exterior garbage container is used. Loose garbage within a garbage container, other than within a garbage bag, will not be collected.
   (B)   (1)   No more than five 30- or 39-gallon garbage bags or no more than ten 13-gallon garbage bags will be collected from any residence at each garbage collection.
      (2)   Any item of garbage set out for collection must be of a reasonable weight.
      (3)   Any items of excessive weight will not be collected by the city during garbage collection.
   (C)   The Supervisor of City Services or other proper officer of the Department of Sanitation may authorize or direct the use of such other or special containers as the circumstances of any particular situation may require.
