7-4-2: MAILBOX DAMAGE:
Snow plowing of the streets by the Village is done for the public good and mailboxes installed inside the public right of way are to be installed and maintained in a fashion to absorb the impact of snow coming off the face of a plow blade. Mailboxes are a homeowner's responsibility and deteriorated and weakened mailboxes and posts are to be replaced prior to the start of winter.
   A.   Any mailbox or post damaged during Village snow removal operations through direct contact or snow discharge as determined by the Chief Village Officer, or his or her designee, shall be repaired, if practical, or reparations for the damages given, but in no event will an amount exceeding two hundred dollars ($200.00) be paid to the owner of the mailbox. Mailboxes shall not be repaired in kind.
   B.   The Village shall not be responsible for any damage caused to any private property located within the public right of way, including, but not limited to, landscaping, "invisible fence" wiring, plants shrubs, trees, lighting, sprinkler systems, hoses, plumbing or any other materials whatsoever, regardless of the fashion in which the property is damaged (e.g., damage to vegetation caused by the application of salt).
   C.   Snow plowing is a Village-wide operation performed under difficult weather conditions and special snow removal operations to accommodate an individual property owner's driveway or mailbox are not practical. Homeowners are responsible for providing access to their mailbox and driveway during winter conditions.
