(a) All employees shall be scheduled by the department head to work a regular work shift and each work shift shall have a regular starting and quitting time established by the City. There are many jobs in the City requiring different hours of work. An employee’s work schedule will depend upon the work unit to which he or she is assigned, and his or her particular classification within the department. Work schedules showing the employee’s shift, work days and hours shall be posted on department bulletin boards.
(b) Employees may take two fifteen-minute break periods each full working day. Such breaks shall never be construed as a right, but rather a privilege, subject to the scheduling approval of the department head. Work breaks shall never interfere with the proper performance of the work responsibilities of the department. The rest period shall be scheduled at the middle of each one-half shift, whenever this is feasible. Breaks shall never abut the end of the work shift, the first hour of the start of the work shift or the start/end of a meal period. Such breaks shall be considered as part of the employee’s work time.
(c) When appropriate, employees shall be granted a fifteen-minute personal clean up period immediately prior to the end of each work shift.
