All licenses granted under this chapter shall expire on the first Monday in May of each year after issuance, or in the event the licensee elects to pay the license fee semiannually, such license shall expire at the end of the half year for which the fee has been paid unless the next half year's fee is tendered prior to commencement of such half year.
