§ 52.42 INABILITY TO READ METER.
   (A)   When the utility is unable to gain access to a meter setting in order to obtain the regular monthly reading cycle, the utility shall send the customer a letter requesting arrangements for access within regular working hours. If the city does not receive a response to the correspondence, then service shall be discontinued.
   (B)   No object shall be permitted to block access to a water meter pit. Objects blocking the water meter pit, including, but not limited to, buildings, fencing, driveways, recreation area, vehicles, and the like, that prevent the city from reading the water meter shall be removed by the customer. If the customer does not remove such object(s), the utility reserves the right to remove, move, or have removed any item blocking access to a water meter pit.
   (C)   The homeowner will be responsible for the cost of repairing, rerouting, repaving, towing, removing an item, and the like, necessary to allow a city employee access to the water meter pit. A $50 fee will be assessed for each correspondence (legal or clerical) that must be sent to the homeowner following the initial of a challenge for the removal of an item. This fee cannot be appealed. The city reserves the right to turn off the water of any customer for failure to pay such fees.
