An individual, club, or association may sponsor a public or private exhibition, competition, contest, training, or educational presentation within the city limits, and may be permitted to allow the use and/or discharge of a firearm, air gun, BB gun, pellet gun, paintball gun, bow and arrow, crossbow and arrow, slingshot, or any similar device within city limits, only with the written permission of the chief of police, or his/her designee, and only after obtaining any other permits or licenses required by state law or city ordinance. The sponsor must provide protective measures, approved by the chief of police or his/her designee, which are adequate to protect the participants, spectators, and the general public from harm or injury. As a precondition to authorization for such an event, the chief of police or the city administrator may require the sponsor to provide proof of or procure liability insurance, and may also require the sponsor to give notice to the owners or occupants of any residential, industrial, or commercial properties, or other interested parties located in the vicinity of the proposed activity. A permit fee, fixed from time to time by resolution of the city council, shall be required. (Ord. 1015 §2, 2006)
