§ 93.38 REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF ABANDONED AND JUNK VEHICLES.
   (A)   If an abandoned vehicle is a junk vehicle as defined by this chapter, the city may dispose of such vehicle pursuant to I.C. 9-22-1-3. The storage yard shall not dispose of the vehicle for at least 30 days after the vehicle’s towing or removal. If the vehicle is demolished, a copy of the abandoned vehicle report and any photographs relating to the vehicle shall be forwarded to the Bureau. The original records and photographs shall be retained for a period of two years in the City Police Department.
   (B)   If in the opinion of the officer the market value of the abandoned vehicle or parts exceeds $750, the officer, before placing a notice tag on the vehicle or parts, shall make a reasonable effort to ascertain the person who owns the vehicle or parts or who may be in control of the vehicle or parts. After 72 hours from the time that the officer tags the abandoned vehicle, the officer shall require the vehicle or parts to be towed to a storage yard.
   (C)   If an abandoned vehicle or parts thereof are in such a condition that vehicle identification numbers or other means of identification are not available to determine the person who owns or holds a lien on the vehicle, the vehicle may be disposed of without notice.
