The City of Jackson is hereby re-districted and divided into two (2) wards by a line beginning at the point of intersection of the westerly projection of the center line of Sherman Street and the west boundary of the City, thence east on the center line of Sherman Street to its intersection with the center line of Fourth Street, thence south on the centerline of Fourth Street to its intersection with the center line of West Ashley Street, thence east on the center line of West Ashley and East Ashley Streets, and theeasterly projection thereof, to the east boundary of the City. All that portion of the City lying generally on the north side of said line is hereby designated the First Ward, and all that portion of the City lying generally on the south side of said line is hereby designated the Second Ward. In the event of the adoption of an ordinance code, the administrative portion thereof shall accurately describe ward boundaries then in effect. The council may at any time, and shall after each federal census, consider changes in ward boundaries. But any change in ward boundaries shall be for the sole purpose of making the wards as nearly equal in population as practicable, so as to provide equal representation. Any future changes in ward boundaries shall be by ordinance.
