The City of Jackson recognizes the need for a simple and cost effective program for identifying and correcting deficient rental housing units within this City. The purpose of this chapter is to protect the public health, safety and general welfare by:
(A) Promoting safety from fires and accidents;
(B) Providing a means for the fair administration and enforcement of this code for all residential rental units;
(C) Regulating all residential rental units;
(D) Providing minimum standards for the maintenance of rental housing units;
(E) Providing minimum standards for basic equipment and facilities;
(F) Preventing overcrowding by providing minimum space standards per occupant for each rental dwelling unit; and
(G) Reducing environmental hazards to health.
