§ 95.56 MAILBOXES.
   All residential mailboxes within the village shall conform to the following standards:
   (A)   Mailbox standards. The standards for the placement of freestanding mailboxes shall be as follows: the face of the mailbox shall not be less than eight inches nor more than 12 inches from the back edge of the curb or, where no curb exists, less than 16 inches nor more than 20 inches from the near edge of the public street pavement.
   (B)   Mailbox construction. Mailboxes shall be mounted on a support structure which is a minimum of four inches by four inches or a maximum of six inches by six inches treated wood post or a minimum 1 ½) inches to a maximum of three inches diameter light gauge galvanized steel hollow pipe, or a similar structure as approved by the Director of Public Works, and found by him or her to be of comparable quality and safety to the wooden post or light gauge steel pipe structures.
   (C)   Failure to comply. Failure to comply with these mailbox regulations may result in penalties pursuant to § 10.99 of this code, and shall render the mailbox owner ineligible to receive any appropriate reparations under division (D) below.
   (D)   Reparations. In the event of municipal snowplowing along the streets of the village which results in direct contact damaging a mailbox which is in compliance with this section, the village shall make reparations to the mailbox owner in an amount of said damage, not to exceed $75 per mailbox per event causing such damage. Nonconforming mailboxes and/or nonconforming mailbox support structures previously in existence upon the effective date of the ordinance from which this section is derived which are damaged by direct contact by municipal snowplowing along the streets of the village, shall likewise be entitled to reparations not to exceed $75 per event causing such damage.
   (E)   Clearing of parkway/mailbox. The village is not responsible for clearing snow from the parkway immediately in front of mailboxes. Property owners are authorized to clear snow from the immediate parkway area in front of their mailboxes in order to ensure mailbox accessibility.
