§ 72.47 DISPOSAL OF UNCLAIMED VEHICLES WITHOUT NOTICE.
   (A)   All vehicles that come under the control of the Itasca Police Department as abandoned, inoperable or impounded will be disposed of in accordance with 625 ILCS 5 § 4-203 through 625 ILCS 5 § 4-212.1.
   (B)   When the identification of the registered owner or other person(s) legally entitled to the abandoned vehicle, seven years of age or newer, cannot be determined after a reasonable effort, the vehicle may be disposed of without notice to the registered owner or person(s) legally entitled to the vehicle. It shall be the responsibility of the designated officer to document all attempts that were made to identify the owner. This officer shall complete the necessary paperwork to turn the vehicle over to the towing company.
   (C)   When the unclaimed or abandoned auto is more than seven years of age and is impounded in accordance with this subchapter, the vehicle shall be kept for a minimum of ten days for purposes of determining ownership. The designated officer will send by certified mail a notice to the last known owner as indicated by records maintained by the Secretary of State's Office. A check will also be made of the Illinois State Police Stolen Vehicles Records to ensure that the vehicle is not reported as stolen or wanted in connection with another offense. At the expiration of the ten-day period, and without benefit of information from the registered owner, the designated officer shall complete the necessary paperwork to turn the vehicle over to the towing company that towed/removed the vehicle.
