If any of the provisions of this franchise ordinance are for any reason declared to be illegal or void, the lawful provisions of this franchise ordinance, which are severable from said unlawful provisions, shall be and remain in full force and effect, the same as if the franchise ordinance contained no illegal or void provisions. In the event any provision or provisions are ruled illegal or void by a court of competent jurisdiction, the city and the company shall forthwith amend this franchise to insert a successor provision that complies with the applicable court ruling.
