The outdoor lighting standards are intended to reduce the obtrusive aspects of outdoor light usage while preserving safety, security, and the nighttime use and enjoyment of property. These measures will encourage lighting practices that direct appropriate amounts of light where and when it is needed and decrease glare resulting from overlighting and poorly shielded or inappropriately directed lighting fixtures.
