430.01 TRUCK ROUTES.
   (a)   All trucks having more than three axles and weighing in excess of 8,000 pounds gross weight are hereby required to use those streets and roadways designated as truck routes in this section while being operated within the City, unless exempted by this section.
   (b)   The following streets and roadways are hereby designated as truck routes:
      (1)   Steele Street.
      (2)   Depot Street.
      (3)   Kidd Street.
      (4)   Beardsley Street.
      (5)   Main Street between Yeomans Street and Kidd Street.
      (6)   Main Street between Second Street and Prairie Creek.
      (7)   State Street between Lincoln Avenue (M-21) and the north City limits.
      (8)   Lincoln Avenue (M-21) between the east City limits and the west City limits.
      (9)   Dexter Street (M-66) between Lincoln Avenue (M-21) and the south City limits.
      (10)   Adams Street between Dexter Street (M-66) and Jackson Street.
      (11)   Jefferson Street from Railroad Street to the south end of Jefferson Street.
      (12)   Jackson Street from Lincoln Avenue (M-21) to the south end of Jackson Street.
      (13)   Jefferson Street from Lincoln Avenue (M-21) to the north City limits.
      (14)   Railroad Street between Jackson Street and Mill Street.
      (15)   Webber Street between Jackson Street and Jefferson Street.
      (16)   Washington Street between Dexter Street (M-66) and Kidd Street.
      (17)   Cleveland Street between Main Street and the south City limits.
      (18)   Main Street between Cleveland Street and the east City limits.
   (c)   In addition to those street listed above, Bayard Street between Cleveland Street and Mill Street shall be a limited truck route. Hours for Bayard Street shall be the hour preceding and following the opening of school, lunch hour of school and dismissal of school.
   (d)   Special mobile equipment, emergency vehicles, public utility vehicles and any vehicle, truck or equipment owned or operated by the City or working under the direction of the City shall be exempt from this section.
   (e)   Trucks conducting business at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital, 479 Lafayette Street, shall be exempt from this section.
   (f)   A police officer shall have the authority to require any person driving or in control of any truck proceeding over a truck route or street over which truck traffic is permitted, to proceed to any public or private scales for the purpose of weighing and determining whether or not the weight restrictions, as set forth in subsection (a) hereof, have been complied with.
   (g)   This section shall not prohibit the operation of trucks upon any street which has not been designated a truck route where such use is necessary to conduct business at a destination point inside the City, provided, however, that streets upon which such truck traffic is permitted, as set forth in subsection (b) hereof, are used until reaching the intersection nearest to the destination point.
   (h)   Notwithstanding any provisions contained herein to the contrary, the Public Safety Department, upon application, may exempt any truck from this section for any reasonable period of time.
