The marking of fire lanes on private and public property may be designated and approved by the chief of the fire department or the fire marshal and approved by the chief of police in order that travel of firefighters and fire equipment and apparatus will not be interfered with or obstructed, and in order that access to buildings, structures, fire hydrants, fire boxes and fire department connections will not be blocked or obstructed.
