§ 30.04 ANNUAL INCREASES OF COMPENSATION OF COUNCIL MEMBERS.
Editor’s Note: The following section shall be enacted and effective upon the commencement of the terms of new Council members and/or re-elected Council members after the general municipal election in November 2006.
As an alternative to an increase in Council member salary warranted by an increase in the city's population per § 30.02, the City Council may at any time consider and approve an annual increase in the compensation of Council members beyond the scheduled amounts in Gov’t Code § 36516 by an ordinance or by an amendment to an ordinance. No annual increase considered or approved pursuant to this section may exceed an amount equal to 5% for each calendar year from the operative date of the last adjustment to Council member salary in effect when the ordinance or amendment effecting such an annual increase is enacted. Furthermore, no salary ordinance shall be enacted or amended which provides for automatic future increases in Council member salary.
