It shall be the duty of the owners or agents of any building within the limits of the city to put up and keep upon in front of their buildings a number corresponding with the number shown upon the plat to be kept on file in the office of the City Clerk, sufficiently large and plain to be easily read from the opposite side of the street upon which the house is situated.
