There is created a police department, an executive department of the village, consisting of the police chief and such numbers of full time or part time lieutenants, sergeants and police officers as may be provided by the board of trustees. The department is established to protect lives and property within the corporate boundaries of the village, to enforce federal and state statutes, and village ordinances, and to perform related police functions.
