For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
LICENSE. The authority given to a corporation, unincorporated association, partnership or sole proprietorship to engage in the security guard business.
OWNER. Any officer, owner, manager or other person who shall receive any percentage of profits directly from the operation of the security company or anyone who directs any policy of the company.
PERMIT. The authority given to an individual for the purpose of acting as a registered security officer and carrying a weapon.
PERSON. Any individual, sole proprietorship, firm, partnership, joint venture, association, corporation or combination thereof.
PRIVATELY REGISTERED SECURITY OFFICER. Any individual permitted by the city to provide patrol, guard, watchman or depository services for a licensed security company, or any individual permitted by the city to provide these same services for one business only and who is authorized to carry firearms under the provisions of this chapter.
SECURITY COMPANY. Any corporation, unincorporated association, partnership or sole proprietorship offering any services as an independent contractor and employing private security officers who are licensed under the provisions of this chapter.
SECURITY SERVICES. The service performed by a security officer or company for the purpose of protecting life or property from harm or theft. The use of mechanical devices or animals for such purposes shall not in itself constitute security service for the purpose of this chapter.
